| Bill Gay - Sunday School Perfect Attendance for 33 Years |
|
|
| Pastor Bill Gay of
Washington, NC, has not missed Sunday School in 33 years. He only missed in
1972 because he was serving in a war zone in South Vietnam while in the US
Air Force. In a war zone, one has to work seven days a week. But, during the
last few months, he found a way to attend Bible Study every Sunday at either
Trinity Baptist Church in downtown Saigon or at the Chapel on Tan Son Nhut
Air Base.
In 1998, he had a minor heart attack and was
treated at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. He asked a local
minister to come to the ICU and teach the Sunday School lesson so he could
keep his record intact. He also had a perfect attendance from age four to 14
at Hephzibah Baptist Church near Wendell.
He is extremely proud of the fact that his
mother also received her perfect attendance pin for the same period. His
mother was a poor widow but walked with her four children to church every
Sunday. For years, Bill has published a weekly e-mail newsletter called
"Enjoy the Journey" based on John 10.10b. At the top of page 4, he asks:
"Are you attending Sunday School Regularly? If not, you are starving
yourself spiritually!" He has a strong belief that a person should be in
Bible study every Sunday---somewhere---even if on vacation.
