Role Play or skit.
Make adaptations suitable for your church.
Time:
Any Sunday afternoon, about
2:30.
Setting:
Two telephones, one in the home of the church guest, the other in the home of
I. D. Care, an adult class outreach leader or Ministry-Care Group Leader
from
Welcome
Home
Church.
I.
D. Care:
"Hello! I am
I.
D.
Care, Outreach Leader
in the Willing Workers Young Adult Class at
Welcome
Home
Church
.
Thank you for being our guest in Sunday School and worship this
morning."
Guest/Visitor:
"Well, my goodness, your call is really a surprise.
We've visited a number of churches in this town, but most of them never
made a contact. And nobody called us on the very same Sunday we visited."
I.
D.
Care:
"I hope I'm not bothering you in calling so soon, but we just wanted to be
sure you know how glad we are to have you and your family as our guests. And if
you are looking for a church home, Welcome to Welcome Home!" Is there
anything you would like to ask about our church, or would it be more convenient
if I called at another time."
Guest/Visitor:
"We are a little rushed. It is
my parents 25 wedding anniversary, and we are having a family party for them
this afternoon. This will be a special time since their first grandson will be
there making it a gathering of four generations!"
I.
D.
Care:
"Then let me let you go. May I
call back tomorrow evening? Will you be finished with dinner about
7:30
?"
Guest/Visitor:
"Please do. By the way, does your church have any ministry to
shut-ins"
I.
D.
Care:
"We sure do, and I can tell you all about that tomorrow night.
Would it be convenient if I dropped by your house for a brief visit and
brought you the materials?
Guest/Visitor:
"We'd like that, but Tuesday would be better. And at
8:00.
We will have the baby in bed by then. "
I.
D.
Care:
Tuesday it will be. 8:00 o'clock. I will phone again
just before coming to be sure the time is still okay. Now, you have safe travel
and really good time at the anniversary. God
bless you! Goodbye."
After the skit, ask questions such as: What conclusions
might you draw from this conversation?
What
did you discover about the church? What
did you discover about the guest? About the prospect?
What follow up might be needed?
