Reaching Your Own Church Members for Bible Study!

A STRATEGIC OPPORTUNITY !

Rejoice that millions of people are enrolled in Sunday School and Bible study groups across the land! However, become concerned that in many churches one-third to one-half of the members are NOT involved in an on-going, life-changing Bible study group! Pray that God will touch the hearts of thousands of church members who do not understand the importance of regular Bible study through the Sunday School or similar small groups. Consider implementing a strategy to identify, contact, show loving concern, and involve these people in a Sunday School class, neighborhood Bible study, or small group through the week

Now is a good time to concentrate on identifying church members that are not involved in Sunday School or another small group Bible study.  The fall and winter is a good time to claim the opportunity of involving unenrolled church members in Bible study. In many communities during the cooler seasons of the year, people do not travel as much or take as many vacations. Many people are more open to participating in small affinity groups, especially when such groups welcome them and make them feel at home.

Now is a good time to compare the church roll with the Sunday School roll, making a list of all non-enrolled persons to contact and encourage.  The fall and winter months provide an opportune time to assign every person so identified to an appropriate Sunday School class for ministry, regular contact, and prayer concern whether or not the person ever decides to "join." Some churches are inserting either a list or individual cards into the class record books so that teachers and outreach leaders feel more responsible for these "non-enrolled church members." Make ministry responsibility more specific by assigning each non-enrolled church member to a specific Care/Ministry Group. For suggestions about organizing a Sunday School class for outreach and ministry, contact Phil Stone, Bible Teaching & Church Administration Leader, Baptist State Convention: pstone@ncbaptist.org.
