LESSON SUMMARY:
We discussed portions of Genesis chapter 6 - 8 today. We can learn
so much from Noah's life....obedience, patience, consistency,
gratitude, honor, faithfulness and acceptance. Can you imagine God
asking you to build a boat that would hold 45,000 animals, be the
size of 1 1/2 football fields and you would stay on it for a year?
Noah never questioned God"s command...he got straight to work. He
never worried about the details either. Just like me, you may have
immediately started wondering about all of the tiny aspects of this
project, especially how to round up all of the animals. Noah
immediately obeyed God and did what was asked of him while letting
God work out the details. Notice in verse 7:15 the animals came to
Noah. He did not have to worry about gathering them.
Why did God flood the earth? We read in 6:5-8 that God was "grieved"
over man's evil heart and thoughts and that he would wipe out man
and creatures because of this. Noah and has family were the only
righteous and blameless people left in this generation. Do we cause
God to grieve? Are our hearts righteous and blameless? Are we
influencing others to live a righteous life ? Just as Noah did, we
can find "favor in God's eyes" in spite of the sin that surrounds
us. God spared Noah because of his faithfulness and made a covenant
with him. He spared his life and the life of his family and promised
never to destroy the earth by water again. God also gave us the
promise of eternal life when he sent us his Son. We need to live out
that promise by living as Noah did...obedient, faithful, hopeful
and with gratitude for the blessings God has given us.
For next week read Genesis 9.
